Plié et Cassé (mc mf ff md in) (new)  by J. Darksong
–2.5/5 (not great, had some redeeming qualities)–

To be honest, dancing, especially ballet, is not my thing. When the Sochi Olympics happened, I would not have understood the vast majority of the opening and closing ceremonies if there wasn’t a rolling commentary! Anyway, FF and IN suggested there may be something very interesting here :)I must admit that there was some skimming at the start, feeling little for “Swan Lake” performances and not really knowing what the are on a deeper level. It’s hard for me to say if this was overlong or too short. On the one hand, I’m clearly more than naive on ballet, not getting much from the description given, but on the other, the plot of a woman (a ballerina) finding herself MC’ed to be better seems almost too straight forward for 8K words. The heat wasn’t bad for what it was, at least! Not really my thing, as should not be a shock. Would work much better if the reader had any interest in ballet!

Wild Thing (mc ff mf fd gr la sf) (new)  by Half Shim and Zyzzyva
–4/5 (pretty good, not perfect but enjoyable)–

Might have been kinder to not throw these chaps up all at once, being aprox 15K words. Still, I haven’t done reviews in a while! Besides, I do enjoy a good SciFi tale with distinct eroticism! Nicely written start, if albeit a bit standard. One step away from “It was a dark and stormy night …” :P Overall, this was actually incredibly well written and well paced. Can’t say this propelled itself beyond a genre piece at first, but simply got better, albeit really weird, as it went. The transformative heat was wondrous, no matter how weird it got! I was loosely reminded of a crazy movie called The Killer Tongue, but this story was a lot better narratively. My only real complaint is the impregnation thing, but I guess it was leading to that … Granted, this got a bit over the top, but it was unapologetic about it. The author did not hold back. I’ll keep an eye out to see where this fever dream goes.

Back and Forth (Jukebox) (mc mf fd) (new)  by Jukebox
~~3/5 (decent, not perfect)~~

Jukebox! One of the few authors I’ll always find time for. Rather straight forward, but well written. The synopsis and website kinda give it all away. No frills, no thrills. It is what it is. If you’re into pure hypno pieces, it’s just fine. For me, it’s a minor diversion.

I’m sure it’s an interesting debate on the kind of depth erotica should have. Of course, I’ll just say it depends on the story!

Ex Nihilo (mc ff mf) (new)  by InLeaves
–2.5/5 (not great, had some redeeming qualities)–

Theres something oddly amusing how a story called Ex Nihlo (from nothing) was commissioned my someone called Anonymous … written well enough, but doesn’t quite get me going at the start. Granted its obviously the start of a larger story, but it took a little while for annoying to happen. Interesting, but didn’t peak my interest as much as I wanted it to.

The Mask Becomes You (mc ff mf fd) (1 new chapter)  by Carefully Random
–2/5 (so-so, maybe a good story to others but didn’t mesmerize me)–

I still find the style of writing in the present sense a bit awkward to read, but the story was overall polished in its own style. To be honest, I never actually understood why cooking and cleaning are ever a part of MC eroticism. It always seemed so cliched and redundant. Also, I’m pretty sure we should be passed moral dilemmas by chap five. I mean, she allowed the mask’s power to become a part of her, so why is she balling her eyes out over controlling others with the mask’s power? The mask, of course, again, gains the upper hand. That’s basically most of this chapter, even though we’ve been through this all already …

Molding Melissa (mc) (new)
~1.5/5 (poor +, need to be mesmerized to really like this)~~

Given the mind control context, the start of this isn’t particularly new or surprising. The writing was otherwise polished. Not really much here in terms of substance or narrative. Seems like we jump in halfway through the mental tf. Don’t get me wrong, in media res is a fine old school technique, but only of at least a portion of the start is depicted. Perhaps MC purists may fine some enjoyment here, but only for the ones that aren’t completists.

The Mask Becomes You (mc ff mf fd) (2 new chapters)  by Carefully Random
–3/5 (decent, not perfect)–

Granted, I didn’t have the time when the first chaps came out for a review, but the theme here looked great. I have a mask MC story in the works myself, albeit as part of an alien invasion :P Anyway, minus some grammatical inconsistencies, this showed some polish, albeit in its own style. I always find a story written in the present instead of past tense a little awkward to read (also write), but the author here was at least consistent with it. As for the start of this story, while I like backstory, it seemed a little overthought here, given the context of the story (skimmed most of those tangents). Still, I certainly liked how there was an innocent obliviousness here. They were having fun, and had no clue what there were getting into. While chap 1 wasn’t half bad, Chap 2 dragged a bit. This is a story about a mind controlling mask on the Mind Control Story Archive. How much of an internal morality debate is necessary? She’s obviously gonna use the mask, as she used it before her apparent conflict! Wearing that mask in front of the mirror made up for that annoyance, though. The imagery there was quite excellent. Mental TF can be just as good as physical. The mask’s personality was quite interesting. Chap 3 has similar issue, if only because the sex scene was inexplicably omitted, while there was more needless morality and ethics debates. Chap 4 drags a bit, too, but not out of anything in particular … Not bad overall, kinda interesting, but far from perfect. I’ll keep a lookout for more, if only because the mask interests me.

Pencil (mc ff) (new)  by softi
–3.5/5 (good, not quite earth shattering)–

While my buttons weren’t pushed right away, the story moved quite smoothly. Definitely well polished. A bit of a genre piece, but implemented fine, especially for those into pure hypno MC. I guess I liked this overall out of its smoothness. Not over the top; not overly simplistic. In terms of narrative, this just worked.

Mirror Mirror (DJ Pynchon) (mc mf fd bd) (new)  by DJ Pynchon
~~5/5 (TRULY ORGASMIC!)~~

While not necessarily button pushing at first, it was a well implemented direct start. Too dark for me to derive any serious heat, but it was a well done story. Sort of a less ridiculous version of the film series Saw, of which I only ever liked the last five minutes of each film where they wrapped up everything. Anyway, I didn’t skip to the end here. I think what really meshed with me was the romance of it. I am a closet romantic ::) The two were perfect for each other, and were lucky one of them knew it. And maybe, just maybe, erasing that browser history isn’t always necessary.

Continuous/Updatable Neuropositive Therapy (mc ff in) (new)  by If I Was Not You
–2.5/5 (not great, had some redeeming qualities)–

I’ve, albeit very slowly, come to enjoy most types of incest stories, and mother/daughter is certainly within my realm of interests now! The start of this didn’t exactly push my buttons. Whining, yelling, and running away does nothing for me emotionally for characters I met a paragraph ago. The traditional therapy presented didn’t exactly peak my interest either. It seemed all fairly obvious. They’re both fracked up, I got it! Otherwise, the writing was fine in albeit its own style. There is a strong suspension of disbelief here actually. This is talking about a kind of MC implant that probably doesn’t yet exist outside sci-fi, but there is no indication, other than the implant, that this isn’t set ~present day. No real heat until way after halfway through, and quite a bit of exposition, whose necessity is debatable. Had it’s moments, though, I’ll give it that.

Lulu (mc ff) (new)  by Garden Variety
–2/5 (so-so, maybe a good story to others but didn’t mesmerize me)–

Though perhaps redundant, it was interesting to see a cast of characters presented at the start in this context. Also, I was surprised and somewhat grumbly to see BDSM listed within the story and not on the archive listing, which does have BD (bondage) and DS (dom/sub) tags. Plus, as an observation, Coven V, which I’ve never read, is not on the Archive. So there’s that … Anyway, there appeared to be punctuation errors hither and thither, and the writing felt a bit stilted at times. The writing style was distinctly different by having the narrative in the present sense, but that’s more an observation than complaint. I also had mixed feelings about having an elaborate contract negotiation right at the start. Not particularly compelling, while I have no real concept of the pay presented being more or less than normal. I ultimately found myself skimming, not being particularly pulled in out of stated reasons. Just didn’t mesh with me.

Space Invaders of the Mind (mc mf ff md sf) (new)  by If I Was Not You
~~3.5/5 (good, not quite earth shattering)~~

Had a somewhat wild sound to it, so I thought I’d give it a go. This was perhaps a bit heavy and obvious on the genre references, which I certainly got. Otherwise, this was very well polished. A bit of a genre piece at first, but it had a fine amount of reality bending. As a side note, having a single person on the trips presented here may have serious liability issues, for lack of better words. If I am interpreting the story correctly, that issue may be an intentional part of the underlying plot. Still, a single crew member seems odd to me, and that itself may also be intentional. Perhaps does get a little too wild and over the top, threatening to break down the story, but it was still a fine mind bending read. Like with South Park’s Grounded Vindiloop, I’m honestly not sure what happened, but I’m OK with that.  ;)
